World Book Day saw the children in their PJ's and onesies, sharing their favourite bed time stories. There was also a competition for the best book cover design for each year group. Every child also received a £1 book token.

Mr Newton is off to pastures new from September and enjoyed a very lovely, touching leaving assembly today. He was presented with a Hornbeam tree, an appropriately dressed gnome and every child has received a cupcake with his face on it!

Hornbeam took part in the DLA Football Tournament at Warden House and after a tense penalty shoot out, became the eventual winners!

FISH Cupcake Challenge! (10 images)

FISH hosted a bake off where children baked 6 cupcakes. 1 was judged and 5 were sold to raise funds for the school. Over £100 was raised and 64 cupcakes judged!

Children and staff dressed as their favourite characters from books. With the best home made costume winners receiving a book as a prize. All children also receive a book token to mark World Book Day.

Chris Cook Visit February 2016 (14 images)

Commonwealth Gold Medallist and Olympic Swimmer Chris Cook visited the school again in the lead up to this years games in Rio. Chris led a whole school assembly where he talked to the children about goal setting and being ambitious. He then worked with different classes and groups of children helping them boost their confidence and develop leadership skills.

Deal's RMA holds an annual pantomime through which they raise an incredible amount for good causes. Hornbeam football team were lucky enough this year to receive a donation towards a new kit. Many thanks to all at the RMA involved in the Sgts Mess Panto.

Amazing Animals 2016 (19 images)

Year R, along with some other lucky classes, got the chance to get up close to some amazing animals! Including a squirrel monkey, boa and penguins!

Years 1 and 2 got the chance to visit the Astor Theatre and see a real working theatre in action. Including the sound studio which will soon see the launch of Deal Radio!

Pupils from year 5 and 6 took part in the K'Nex challenge at the school. With 3 pupils going on to take part in the regional final where they won! Well done girls!

The children collected a bumper harvest this year in support of the Deal Food Bank. Preston also did a sponsored cycle ride raising over £200 for the food bank. An amazing achievement! Well done to all the children.

Chris Cook visits Hornbeam 2015 (4 images)

Olympic and Commonwealth Swimmer Chris Cook visited the school and gave an assembly, showing the children his gold medal from the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. Year 1 were also lucky to get some tips for their first swimming lesson of the year.

Indigo Moon Theatre Company came into school to present a show to the children and they even got to have a go themselves.

Red Nose Day 2015 (4 images)

A day of fundraising: the children took part in a sponsored assault course, had a Red Nose themed tuck shop, bid for a teacher to get their face painted for the whole day, dressed up as secret agents and raised over £1000! Mrs Adams was the lucky recipient of the face painting bidding war and teachers got into the spirit by dressing as the children for the day
